*Notice* This episode contains sensative information on one Christian's work with former gang members and victims of human trafficking.
Chris Baker has removed or covered over 4,000 tattoos for former gang members and victims of human trafficking. His work to give people a fresh start has been covered everywhere from Buzzfeed to the Chicago Tribune.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Chris Baker was what police referred to as a "known associate." He wasn't a gang member himself, but could be found in the vicinity of the criminal underworld. After a good friend was killed in a drive by shooting, Chris and his family moved to Chicago, in search of a more peaceful life of opportunity.
Although Chris had some experience with church growing up, he didn't truly meet Jesus until adulthood. When he was searching for his calling, God showed him it was already in his hand--a tattoo gun.
This is an episode about removing the physical reminders of past trauma, but it's also about listening to God's call, and staying strong in your own faith and as a family when faced with massive obstacles to overcome.
Finally, Chris shares some vital wisdom about keeping your children safe in the digital age.

Comedian Tracy DeGraaf's five boys have been to the emergency room a total of 21 times.
For years, Tracy was barely able to keep her head above water, holding together a household with five young children.
Then, when she turned 40, Tracy looked at a picure of her late mother, who had passed away at 52, and realized she had to get going on her own dream.
This is a conversation about joy and hilarity mixed with pain and frustration, laugh-out-loud moments interspersed with two cancer diagnosises.
And ultimately, this episode is about practical tips to find the joy and thankfulness to God in every circumstance.

Four weeks after New Years, most resolutions have been broken. It could be that this year you planned to start a blog or YouTube channel, open a side business or to start selling an art or craft online.
It's easy to dream big as the ball drops, only to see your aspirations fall apart in the short, cold days of January.
A veteran publisher in the Shine.FM listening area, Julia Perla Huisman had dreamed of starting her own magazine, but also had to deal with the realities of time, family responsibilities...and well, money.
In 2017, Julia launched Here Magazine, dedicated to shining a light on local culture, food, events and activities that make life in Northwest Indiana so unique.
In this episode we discuss:
--leaning on God's strength, even while wrestling with the reality that your idea or venture could fail.
--getting the whole family on board with your vision, including understanding the sacrifices.
--the things you must wrestle through if you child wants to launch a YouTube channel or online brand of their own.
--how your spouse can be your greatest ally in your adventure.

If you were told that you could improve your marriage with the same skills baseball greats Alex Rodriguez and Frank Thomas used to hit home runs...your first reaction would likely be...huh?
But that's exactly what this episode is about. Jim Fannin has coached more successful athletes than anyone else in the world, helping professionals succeed in the Super Bowl, World Series and the Olympics. In this episode of Stronger Together, we look at the brain science behind peak performance, and how you can apply those same tools in your marriage, as a parent, at work and in other everyday situations.
Stronger Together is a show about growing in marriage, parenting, relationships and community, and airs weekly on Shine.FM. Have an idea for a future show? Contact host Seth Tower Hurd via email at sethtowerhurd@gmail.com.

Normally, couples seek out therapy during a rough spot in their relationship.
But what if you could sit down and ask a therapist how to have an even stronger marriage? That's exactly what we do in this episode with Dr. Karen Cassiday, Chicago therapist and former TV Host for Animal Planet (really!)
In this episode you'll learn:
--why both strong and rocky marriages have the same amount of conflict, and what the strong couples do differently.
--why you should "treat your spouse like your favorite dog." (Karen's words!)
--why healthy friendships are absolutely essential for a strong marriage.
--the research behind the "20 to 1" positive to negative ratio.

Wednesday Jan 10, 2018
Wednesday Jan 10, 2018
Depending on what stage of parenting you're in, the questions kids ask can range from repetitively maddening ("my four year old has asked how the dishwasher works 4 million times!) to "I would have never thought to ask my parents that at 10."
Dr. Casey Tygrett is a pastor, spiritual director and author of the book Becoming Curious: The Spiritual Practice of Asking Questions. In this episode we discuss how helping kids foster a healthy sense of curiousity can help improve their relationship with God.
We also dive into how to handle tough questions kids are asking about everything from the Bible to changes in modern society.
Finally, we look at how to examine the information available to even young children via TV and YouTube.
Stronger Together is a show about growing in marriage, parenting, relationships and community and can be heard weekly on Shine.FM.
